Bijoya

Credits: Assistant Director

Starring Jaya Ahsan and Abir Chatterjee, this critically acclaimed feature film is a sequel to the National Award winning Bishorjon by auteur-director Kaushik Ganguly. ‘Bijoya’ carries forward the story of widely beloved characters Pawdda Halder, Nasir Ali and Ganesh Mondal.

Bijoya was the third narrative feature I worked on as an Assistant Director, and remains one of my strongest and most memorable work experiences till date. Like its predecessor, Bishorjon, Bijaya is a continuing tale of love and resilience across national borders. The story spoke to me even before I read the script in full. I was excited and fortunate to be a part of it.

Moreover, as someone who had stepped onto a feature film set for the first time only a few months ago, Bijoya brought both a high learning curve as well as greater sense of familiarity and confidence with the inner workings of putting together a feature film shot on real locations within a very tight schedule.

On set, I especially focussed on continuity and script supervision, as well as directing secondary cast and background talent.

Assimilating into a crew that was used to operating as a well-oiled machine while also improving my own response-time to problems on set proved to be a satisfying challenge that I looked forward to every day of the shoot. Moreover, being able to observe renowned director Kaushik Ganguly direct actors on set was possibly the most fulfilling part of the daily grind.
